on Tuesday 11 Jan 1944 for a withdrawal support mission
Intended destination: Diepholz, Germany
Weather at time of the crash: 10/10 overcast with top at 13000 feet
Hazy patchy clouds 13000 up

They were engaged with a group of Luftwaffe Me109's near the Dutch-Germany border
He was last seen near Lingen-Germany by three of his comrades - see statement -

O-674331 - 1st Lt. James R. Pino - ( POW - 11 Apr 1944 )

at about 15000 feet with a ME 109 on his tail and heading West
Lt. Hyland plane was shot down while attempting to escape and crashed near Staphorst
